ABOUT MEL

My name is Melanie Harris. I began riding at the age of 12 and have always been passionate about animals, particularly horses. Since starting to ride, I have gained experience over many disciplines and have had the pleasure of working with high-level coaches, riders and horses. At present, I currently own a warmblood gelding competing in dressage and my childhood allrounder, a thoroughbred mare.

After graduating year 12 I began a Bachelor of Animal Science in 2013 at the University of New England majoring in Horses and Dogs. However, in 2015 I decided to focus primarily on horses, and transferred over to a Bachelor of Equine Science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga and graduated in December 2018.

It was during my degree in 2016 that I gained a strong interest in equine health and “how horses move”, particularly biomechanics, locomotion, muscle structure and their roles in horse’s movement. From this point on-ward I decided to pursue a career in improving the performance, health, physical and mental wellbeing of horses through the application of equine muscle therapies.

I first learnt of the EMMETT Technique through a successful dressage competitor in Queensland. As I was very interested in learning about the EMMETT Technique, I enrolled in the Level 1 EMMETT 4 Horses course in 2015 to find out more.

I took my thoroughbred mare to be treated, with changes in her being noticed instantly! Consequently, I went on to gain my Practitioners Certificate in 2017 so I can apply this amazing technique to all horses. Wanting to extend my knowledge and have the ability to offer different modalities, I completed my Certificate in Equine Sports Massage through ‘Equestricare’ and graduated in February 2019.
